You’re Never Home

by Rudri Soni

“Please leave a message at the beep.”

Pray those words don’t ring through my head.

Look for photos of you,

Deleted them earlier to stay one step ahead

of myself.

Like a gust of wind on a hot summer day,

Temporary relief

Gives way to

A painful deficiency.

Your suffocation is contagious.

I need

to get out

of this place.
